STOP says Mehbooba

Srinagar: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today lashed out at former chief minister and president National Conference Omar Abdullah for indulging in blatant plagiarism by using her old press statements.

Ms Mufti is also seeking legal counsel to file a lawsuit against Abdullah for repeatedly recycling statements written by her during her long stint as an opposition leader.

“National Conference has a history of taking credit for work done by others,” said Ms Mufti in a hard hitting statement. “We have observed that during the last few days Omar Abdullah has been issuing statements that were crafted by me during the time I was in opposition.”

The statement added that from 2010 to 2014, Mufti issued more than 500 statements over killings, disappearances, torture and other human rights violations.

“Recently we saw statements wherein it was written, ‘Kashmir is burning while Chief Minister is more concerned of his throne’, ‘Chief is enjoying in Delhi while youth get killed’, ‘We condemn killings and demand impartial inquiry’, and so on,” said Mufti. “This is open plagiarism and the National Conference doesn’t have guts to admit it.”

Mehbooba asked Abdullah to take some lessons from separatist leaders who only copy their own statements and follow a standard SOP (Standard Operating Procedure).

“See the commitment of Syed Ali Shah Geelani; he copies statements from himself with phrases like ‘Kashmir is a killing field’, followed by a call for shutdown. Yasin Malik  and Mirwaiz Umar recycle their own statements,” said Mehbooba. “Omar should learn from their commitment. The separatists have a standard SOP for every killing and they never digress.”

She warned the NC to desist from issuing statements from their (PDP) store, or face a lawsuit.
