Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said Modi government has left no scope for ceasefire violations inclduing gunfire in Cross LoC trade

Srinagar: Indian Defence Minister Arun Jaitley has denied that any ceasefire violations were taking place along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir and said the exchange of gunfire between troops of India and Pakistan was part of the Cross LoC trade.

“There is no ceasefire violation.  We have included the whole gunfire, including bullets and mortars in the list of items that are traded through LoC route,” Jaitley said while talking to reporters on his visit to the state Satarday.

The decision to include gunfire in the barter trade along LoC, he said was taken by the prime ministers of India and Pakistan to boost the Kashmir specific trade during their meeting in New Delhi.

“It is wrong on part of media to report the exchange of fire on LoC as ceasefire violations. Let me correct you and inform the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as well that such exchanges are now the confidence building measures aimed at strengthening the LoC trade,” Jaitley told Dapaan.

On Friday Omar Abdullah had questioned the timing of exchange of fire on LoC ahead of Jaitley’s Kashmir visit.

loc Jaitley said that gunfire trade would not have specific timing restrictions unlike other items traded through the route.

“This is one item that can be traded anytime, as and when the respective commanders wish. We however hope they will do their best to maintain the balance of trade to avoid any suspicions of hawala trade,” he said.

By strengthening this Confidence Building Measures the Narendra Modi government has removed the possibility of ceasefire violations across the LoC.

“We are picking the threads from where it has been left by Atalji (Atal Bihari Vajpayee). We can assure you that under our government there is simply no possibility of ceasefire violation,” Jaitley told Dapaan.
